Principal's Message

Welcome to the first week of school.  It has been wonderful seeing our 8th grade WEB leaders on campus getting ready to welcome our incoming 6th grade students. The positive energy is palpable.  I love the welcoming atmosphere created by the WEB program to kick off the new school year.  I know I do not have to say how excited we all are to have our students back on campus.

Central teachers and staff are working hard at a Restorative Restart to this year. This means that we are not planning business as usual.  We understand that our students and their families are going to need support in ways that we have not experienced in the past.  Our students are going to need to learn how to operate within the school setting again.  They are also going to need an increased amount of social emotional support.  We plan on prioritizing practices that contribute to the development of the whole child.

By acknowledging the challenges educators will face, we are able to address student need head on.  Some of the Restorative Practices we are implementing are as follows:  We plan on creating dedicated time and space for relationship building and reengagement.  We will conduct regular wellness checks and monitor students’ needs.  This will include mental health support but also as many opportunities as possible to simply have fun.  We also plan on continuing the work we have done around positive restorative discipline practices which includes breathing new life into our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) program.   We also plan on assessing student learning by reviewing data on engagement and academic progress.

Needless to say, we have a lot of work ahead of us.  I will continue to share what we are doing at Central to help rebuild our school community.   The challenges we face are many, however, we are eager to do the work.  We have an extremely talented group of educators who are very much looking forward to seeing our students in person at school.

One quick reminder.  Picture Day is the Tuesday after Labor Day (9/7/21).  Please remember to send your child/children looking their best.

Check out this video from Ms. Jade, School Psychologist & Ms. Jobak, School Counselor as they welcome students and parents/guardians to the 2021/2022 school year and offer some breathing techniques to help calm us down. Mental Health-August 2021 - YouTube
