Covid Update

We are excited because we have entered the Red Tier for new infection rates of Covid.  Students and teachers may begin coming back to school for some in person. I cannot emphasize enough how happy this makes us.

As discussed, we will be returning in a phased in approach in order for students to fully learn and practice our safety protocols.  Below is an outline of our return to school timeline.  Please keep in mind this is highly variable depending on the direction new infection rates head.  We are updating our Phase 4 plan to best respond to current health conditions.  Updated Phase 4 schedule will be coming out in the next 2-3 weeks.

The Week of March 1-5th:

  • Parent Survey and video of Phase 3 Orientation and Phase 3 model
  • Return survey by March 2 requesting at home or in-person for Phase 3

The Week of March 8-12th:

  • Parent Information Video and Presentation during PTA Meeting
  • Student Information video and meet with Mr. Domer in Advisory

The Week of March 15-19th:

  • Orientation Week including a new bell schedule - Students come to school to meet their Advisory Teachers in the afternoon on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday to learn ingress and egress points and practice safety protocols.  Students will tour campus and learn about our outdoor classrooms.  Students who remain in online learning will have an online Orientation one day for 90 minutes this week.

The Week on March 22nd-26th:

  • This will be week 2 of Phase 3 and includes a new bell schedule.  Students will come to campus every Monday for in person learning experiences including building relationships, nurturing social and emotional wellness, safety procedures and a whole lot of fun!  Students opting for online learning will have an online Pack/Advisory every Monday.

The Week of March 29th- April 2nd:

Spring Break

The Week of April 5th -9th:

  • Week 3 of Phase 3 continues. Monday in person learning. Tuesday - Friday online learning. Students opting for online learning will have an online Pack/Advisory on Monday.

The Week of April 12-16

  • Week 1 of Phase 4, tentative, depends on health conditions. Phase 4 schedule to come. This will consist of a hybrid learning model where students will be learning in person and online.  More details to come soon.  If we are not in Phase 4, then Phase 3 in-person on Monday continues with Tuesday- Friday online learning.  Students opting for online learning will have an online Pack/Advisory on Monday or content area classes online.

April - June

  • Phase 4 continues depending on health conditions.

**As mentioned, these dates are tentative and can change based on several factors, however, we are doing our best to project and plan by providing this timeline.  Let’s keep moving forward and stay safe!

COVID19 Testing to Keep Our Kids on Campus

Please take advantage of the no cost surveillance COVID-19 testing provided by the San Mateo County Health Department.

Please sign up for weekly testing for yourself and your child. Contact your health provider for a test if you have symptoms or know you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.

Keeping COVID cases off of our campuses will keep our in person learning possible. As a reminder, if a student or or teacher tests positive for COVID, we will need to transition that cohort back to distance learning for at least two weeks to avoid spreading the virus.

Sign up at one of the following locations to begin your regular weekly testing:

SCEF

San Carlos Education Foundation (SCEF)

We read together and succeeded together! 1644 students registered for the Read-A-Thon and 419,075 minutes read were logged. That’s a lot of hours of our kids not on screens! The Read-A-Thon has raised $139,491 which will benefit all students throughout our district. The fundraising from this event is unique in that over half of the funds raised were from our extended families and friends! What a great way for us all to come together.

Our virtual cooking and baking classes are getting rave reviews. Baking with Caitlynn is coming up in March and April, and it looks delicious! Check out the menu of classes here: https://scefkids.org/upcoming-events/On 3/14, Caitlynn is offering classes in cream puffs and churros, and on 3/21, whoopie pies and hand pies are on the menu! These classes can be purchased together or separately.

SCEF is proud to do our part in the efforts to provide a safe return to SCSD campuses. The contributions from our generous donors have helped fun air purifiers in every classroom at every school, plus additional PPE for teachers and staff. Our long-standing support of smaller class sizes in elementary schools is helping by getting students back to campus in fewer cohorts. Your donations are providing social emotional programs and positions that benefit all students as they transition to on-campus learning, as well as professional development and Edtech applications to support online learning, and Principal Flex Funds for individual school site needs.

Community Foundation of San Carlos (CFSC) Poster Contest Entries Due March 5th

CFSC is launching an inaugural annual poster art contest that is open to everyone in the community.

The theme for this year is racial justice. For those interested, the intent is to design a poster that commemorates one's hopes and dreams for racial justice, a world in which all are respected, valued, and able to thrive. We would love for you to share the details of the art poster contest with your children. If they don't understand the racial justice theme, what a great opportunity to spark discussion.

To learn more about the poster art contest and on how you, your family and others in the San Carlos community can participate, please visit this website.   Poster entry deadline is Friday March 5th.
