2/3/20 CMS Newsletter

February 3, 2020

Dear CMS Families,

It’s National School Counselors Week! Here is what the students at CMS will be hearing this week during morning announcements from our school counselor, Ms. Jobak:

Tuesday: Ms. Jobak is part of a group of over 100,000 school counselors in America who are all doing their best to help build better humans. Today at lunch she is offering Qigong meditation in the north atrium. After you finish your lunch come on in and raise your energy.

Wednesday: Even though Ms. Jobak  is the only school counselor working at both Arroyo and CMS this year she will make time to help any student who needs support. All you have to do is reach out. At both recesses today she will be offering mindful coloring in the north atrium.

Thursday: School Counselors help with friend issues, family problems, school stress, anxiety, depression, low self esteem and much more. If you’d like support, reach out to Ms. Jobak. You can even email her at [email protected]

Friday: Ms. Jobak thanks all of you for celebrating National School Counselors Week. Remember to be your own best friend and always practice using your empathy skills. Please reach out to Ms. Jobak at anytime if you would like support. We’ll be having music at lunch in the quad to wrap up this week.

Measure N Parcel Tax Information

The San Carlos School District strives for teaching and learning excellence in every educational setting. Exceptional teachers, small class sizes, challenging instructional programs, dedicated parent volunteers, and outstanding science, art, and music programs are essential to student achievement and have prepared generations of local San Carlos children to succeed in high school, college, and careers.

Our current parcel tax is about to expire and Measure N is a continuation of that funding stream. The proceeds of this $334.60 parcel tax, could be used to replace the reduced or non-existent state funding and maintain the high quality of education at all SCSD schools. Teaching and learning benefit by maintaining these programs.

The early voting period starts on February 3, with four Vote Centers opening in San Mateo, Redwood City, South San Francisco and East Palo Alto. The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, February 18.

Make Plans to Attend the Chickens' Ball Variety Show and Fundraiser

Congratulations to the San Carlos Chickens’ Ball on celebrating its 80th year of raising funds for our local schools’ visual and performing arts!

80 years ago, the show raised milk money for San Carlos students. Now, money raised specifically supports art and music supplies in our schools. For example, Mariposa staff and students now have a beautiful mural to brighten the halls because of the money raised at the last Chickens' Ball. Tierra Linda students gained a ceramics class, supplied with clay and glaze. How much can we raise for our students this time? The goal is to raise over $40K to continue to support our programs. The more money we raise, the more we give back to our students.

Gather your friends and family and come cheer on your community. Tickets are on sale now for our 7 shows! Evening and matinee performances are on March 13-15, March 20-22.  https://www.chickensball.org/buy-tickets
