Measure N Parcel Tax Information

The San Carlos School Board has placed Measure N on the March 3, 2020 ballot to renew and increase our existing local school parcel tax.

Currently, each San Carlos homeowner pays $246.60 towards the Parcel Tax, which funds teacher salaries and keeping classroom sizes smaller. This tax is set to expire in 2021. The ballot measure is to renew and increase this tax by an additional $88, raising $3,000,000 annually, for 8 years. Taxes raised can ONLY be used locally in our schools and are restricted to:
- Attracting and retaining qualified and experienced teachers
- Maintaining small class sizes
- Maintaining programs that support bringing all students up to the highest level possible in core subjects like math, reading, and writing
- Maintaining math, hands-on science, technology, and engineering programs
- Providing art, music, libraries, and a well-rounded education

This tax is not EXTRA funding but instead is CRUCIAL to operating our district. The funding gap is currently being bridged through local parcel taxes, SCEF, and community partnerships such as the one we have with Sequoia Healthcare District. Additionally, senior citizen homeowners 65 years or older are eligible for an exemption through an application process should they feel it is a financial hardship.

Cutloose January 23-26 at the exciting SCSD musical, Getting to Know FOOTLOOSE, featuring district students in grades 4-8! Tickets are now on sale at www.SanCarlosChildrensTheater.com

True to the original Footloose story about a Chicago teen who discovers that dancing is outlawed in the small town he's just moved to, Getting to Know FOOTLOOSE is a shorter, family-friendly version of the original hit movie. You'll enjoy all the popular dance tunes, including "Let's Hear It for the Boy," the hit Footloose theme, "Holding Out for a Hero," and “Almost Paradise." The annual school district musical is always a sell-out, and everyone loves the exhilarating music and dancing in Footloose, so reserve your seats early.
